The IDEAS Grant: An Initiative to Diversify Study Abroad

The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) funds an annual grant competition to assist American colleges and universities in creating, diversifying, and/or expanding their study abroad programming in support of U.S. foreign policy goals. This generous award, called the Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for US Students (IDEAS) Grant, was granted to Hollins University in 2022, and it aids our Kenyatta-Hollins collaboration through cost coverage of curriculum development, site visits, orientations, presentations, and overhead costs associated with international educational partnerships. We are proud to have been selected by the ECA to develop a sustainable program on global health issues alongside Kenyatta University; to enable greater access to study abroad for historically underrepresented and under-served students; and to be educational ambassadors for the United States to Kenya.
